The Cost of Following God:
(Genesis 16/ Matthew 8:18-22/ Matthew 13:53-58/ Matthew 16:24-28)
Hagar is underplayed in our Bible stories. How hard that would be to hear the voice of God directing you back from where you ran away? Would any woman today go back to her master who was physically and/or mentally abusive? I can just picture her snapping her fingers, rolling her eyes, and saying “oh hell no!”
We sometimes think we cannot bear the circumstances in our life any longer. At times, it may be hard to bear the plans that God has for us. Like myself, wanting to move into the country, instead of staying in the city where I can almost nightly be woken up by gunshots. God has a plan for us, and will guide us in the direction we need to go. And if we choose the wrong direction, He will guide us to the place He wants us to be. Like Hagar, you can run away from man, but you can’t run away from God. He sees our purpose and our path even if we don’t.
